Business Name Ideas – Domain Names in .CO

by in Blog

.co Business Name Generator DilemmaRegistering domain names for generated business name ideas has become quite difficult nowadays because the domain registration industry is nearing its saturation. This is quite a challenge not only for business name generators but also for business owners as well.

For the past three months, .CO Internet S.A.S. successively and aggressively launched the .co domain. This new name extension created a split of speculations regarding its effectiveness. The typical domain sellers or analysts say that this is another typo that is driven towards the typo traffic of the .com extension much like the .cm launch which didn’t do quite well.

However, the .CO Internet strongly opposes this idea. According to Lori Anne Wardi, .CO Internet Director, .co is not another typo and they know that theirs is something unique from the recently launched extensions. Before .co became available to anyone around the globe, it underwent lengthy deliberations before getting the approval of the Colombian government who owns the .co domain. .CO Internet did a lot of research to make policies which are flexible enough for international use and could benefit all parties involved. They also did an extensive market study regarding the perception of the public regarding the .co domain.

Comparing to .cm, which is obviously a typo because it doesn’t stand for or mean anything, the .co is almost as universal as .com. .CO Internet found out that 75 percent of their respondents equated the .co with “company,” “commerce” or “corporation.” In fact, it has been popularly used as 2nd level domain names for over twenty countries. Examples are co.jp, co.uk, co.us, etc.
The public launch of .co was successfully done last month which shows that there are lots of business name generators and business owners alike who are looking forward to the .co domain extension. It opened up a new source of available domain names, making it a lot easier to register a new domain. And once its popularity eventually takes off, the playing field of domain name registrations will absolutely change. However, the true effectiveness of this domain extension still remains to be seen.

The Unseen Asset of Business Names

by in Blog

It is surprising why most business planners and advisers take so little time and effort in creating a sound name for their businesses. The name of the business matters and it matters a lot. In fact, a large number of business experts agree that the company’s name is an intangible asset requiring various business name ideas before finalization of the actual business name.

When you say asset in the business world, it means something that contributes to the earnings, margins, profits, market value, book value and more. How come a simple name can be a part of the monetary values of a company? This is because according to studies, investors and consumers perceive the name of the business as the forthright image that a business projects.

Whether the company name is good or not, it is the foremost thing that people remember and not its products and services or the good things it did to the community. Over time, as the company continues to exists, the name of the company starts to be a brand name. This means that the company name is a potential for branding. When it is already a brand it means it has already marked its territory in the market.

Take for example Coca-cola. Interbrand, a company that evaluates the worth of brands, estimated in 2001 that 61% of the soft drink giant’s market coverage can be credited to its brand’s worth alone. This proves that the name, an intangible asset, can even exceed the tangible assets. Thus, a new company must not overlook this fact.

It is hard for new companies and businesses right now to create a name because of the fast growth of information technology. The “in” thing today may be gone tomorrow. But this should not be reason for dismay. Basically, a new company must ask its self when selecting a name if it’s brand-able.

Then consider also the memory retention of the name. Busy consumers and investors use short term memories when they shop. Don’t make the mistake of naming your business the most bizarre name on the face of the earth in an attempt to be unique. But yes, the name has to be unique. You cannot operate legally when your name already exists in the market.

Moreover, business names must not imply double meanings with negative connotation. It must suggest something about the company and not otherwise, which only causes confusion.

Naming the business is as important as the business. A good company name generator can be of much help for companies who are faced with naming a business dilemma.

What’s in a name?

by in Blog

If someone asked you to name three luxury car brands, which ones would you choose? I immediately think of Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes Benz. If that person wanted you to name three economic car brands, what would your answer be? That answer might depend on how you define “economic”—whether it’s in dollars and cents (less expensive at the time of purchase) or in value (long-term value and benefits that outweigh the initial investment). What strikes me about these two examples is that the company names are defined by their brand identity. When the folks at Mercedes Benz were in the process of naming the business years ago, it’s doubtful the creative people behind the name were thinking, “Yeah, this name sounds like a luxury brand.” But over time, how they positioned this business name led to the development of the brand and its reputation.

Your company name will mean different things to different people, based on their experience and perspective. But before you create a name for yourself, you must evaluate and understand your target customers and what they will expect your company to provide them. You want your business name and slogan to convey the core values of your company while giving insight as to the products or services you provide. A name that’s too short may be hard to understand, but a long name may be hard to remember. Company names that are two to three words are easy to remember and understand, n extra word can go a long way toward more effectively communicating your brand or value proposition! We’d like to think that Fresh Bread Creative is a good example.
